If you are looking for good coffee, humblebee is the place to go! The staff are baristas APPROPRIATE and they know about coffee. The best coffee in Perth!
Our Local Cafe These guys are the real deal. They bake their own coffee and do not make jokes. The hole in the wall place is almost a better kept secret, but the locals love it. Humblebee is a destination for coffee lovers. Serious coffee lovers.
The glasses are small, the coffee is made to perfection and the guys who work here are legends. If you are an honest coffee lover, you will have no problems with your actual approach to coffee. They offer: black or white coffee, batch preparations, filter preparations, frozen Aeropress coffee and frozen espresso tonic.
We bought some beans and we brought coffee. When I asked they told me I did not like what I had selected and they recommended that I ask for something else ... what ... I had a cappuccino in the only size available. Tiny Coffee was just average.
Obviously, this place tries to be a coffee specialist with its unique size, definitely believed to be the best for blah blah blah. If you are going to do this, the coffee should be much better than what you do here. There is no atmosphere of overbearing service and there is no choice.
So that's what good Australian coffee is.
You hear a lot about Australian coffee snobs. Now that I've had a little I understand a little.
You can not put lean milk, iced coffee, granulated chocolate or other things in the way of a fine glass. The beer was fresh and full of flavor and the milk had a perfect consistency, smooth as silk.
The coffee is so good that it's rationed ... or so you may think, since small 3-ounce coffee cups or 5 ounces are the only two sizes available to carry. The coffee was very good, you can not blame them there, but the choice is more or less limited to coffee with milk or black to whole milk, no hot chocolate, no soy, no chocolate powder sprinkled on top. I fear for your health and well-being if you dared mention the syrup (do not worry, I do not). The food choices were limited to mini donuts and croissants. The guy who made my coffee was good. In general, if you are a coffee snob, then this is probably your idea of heaven. As I'm obviously a snobbish grade of B coffee (I like to have a great coffee for pint with an excellent choice of cake or breakfast) and it's a 15 minute trip just for a good coffee, it was not good for me. If I'm in the area, I'd definitely like to come in, but I will not go out of my way for this.
Coffee at its best
So I'm officially a coffee snobber and I have to admit that Humblebee is on another level. The coffee is beautiful and certainly the best I have had in Perth. Do not go ask for soy, almonds or any other shit you want to put in the coffee. You get your black coffee or whole milk ... As it should be and really with coffee so good, why else. I do not normally drink black coffee, but I tried one here and it was velvety soft without bitterness.
Those people also roast their own coffee on the site and have clearly worked out the correct size of the cups to serve you, so that whether you have your black coffee or milk (the right milk that is) comes out perfect.
There are very few cafes in Mt Hawthorn, and we walked through the Humblebee. The aroma of this small coffee was certainly attractive. "Best coffee in Mt Hawthorn" Two obviously the regular seats out front assured us that we came through the door. I ordered my black coffee, excited to try a single origin, as explained by the box. My friend asked for a big one, I'm sorry just a size glass, OK, so I'll have that size, black with soy on the side ..... I'm sorry, not soy ... come on! No soy milk in this day and age. So after two disappointments, we opted out and walked to another cafe. Much more to choose from. Humblebee must raise his game.
Coffee perfection
I discovered this hidden gem with a very demanding coffee loving friend. He was hit. First, the latte art was delicate and well defined, always an indication of good coffee. Second, coffee was really perfection. Third, the staff was welcoming and knowing their stuff. They do not make latte or cappuccino - there is very little difference and most people (even me) could not describe the differences anyway - instead, they produce a perfect coffee for all tastes. If you like coffee, go out of your way to try this little gem of a place.
