So, I finally had the pleasure. After many people who have told me about this unusual gem are worthy of being looked for, the opportunity was lost on Tuesday, when a friend chose her birthday dinner here. I must admit that as soon as I saw the place, I was happy. It's no more than a 15-minute walk to Hyde Park, so easy to navigate, and stands proudly on the corner.
Once you enter the heat of the place (literally) and the staff immediately greets you. We had about 20 strength points, and we had to wait for the end of the table before we could sit down, so we were a little uncomfortable at the entrance, it's not CC's fault, but as a group there's not enough room in the dining room waiting. I heard that in the past they sent people to the pub across the street on that kind of stage, but that became a Tesco subway. Sad times
However, we do not expect much and soon we will settle in our seats. The maids kept us well watered with tidy drinks and water throughout the night, which was a nice touch. He was not drinking, so it was appreciated that he replenished fresh water without having to ask. Since we were a large group, we prepared a set meal for this, which is why we got a selection of sauces and poppadoms. I was not a big fan of yogurt sauces, because they were a bit sour, but that was just me, everyone else loved them. Besides the normal poppadoms we also had cumin seeds.
Then came the appetizers, which consisted of several delicious breaded rolls and a few pieces of shredded lamb kebab and pieces of chicken tikka. All of those were excellent. In particular, I liked the battered potato and the chicken tikka - it was cooked to perfection and not dry at all.
In the end the principal arrived. We had a selection of about 10 different dishes, maybe more, and we are all submerged. Guys, these were the children. This was that. Then, at the end, I tried a few dishes before feeling completely stuffed, but I had a dish of lamb and mushrooms, half spicy, in red sauce (tomato?). A chicken and mushroom, which was not really a korma, but tasted delicious and a cream-based sauce. Those two were the most outstanding for me, but we had all kinds of vegetables, spicy and others. It was not a disappointing snack. Everything just done
And the naan ?! Sweetened! I can not tell you how it made sense once you had mixed it with the curry. Trust me and go with it.
Basically, I found a new favorite in this family restaurant. Why not five stars? Well, I was only once, so I should go again just to be sure. But all this is fantastic. It's not fancy, but it's cozy, the staff are some of the nicest I've lived in Leeds and the food is exquisite. Oh - and the price? £ 15 / head for that banquet!
Good casual place for food with a good beer! I loved the atmosphere and the decor of the place and the staff was very friendly. My friend and I sit outside in the courtyard, which is practically covered above the head, but still feels outdoors, while the small parts are exposed. Even if you pay attention, you can smoke in the yard, so keep in mind that if you eat and do not want to try cigarette smoke.
The menu is a bit like Indian tapas / street food. My friend and I shared 4 dishes between us and we felt it was enough. We tried the potatoes for the okra, the punjabi kadhi, the checho bhatura and the bundo chaat. All the dishes were delicious, my favorite was the Punjabi Kadhi, which was gnocchi (tasted like onion bhajis) in a hot yogurt soup. You get 3 big balls of pasta, so it goes far. I also loved the okra fries. The chaat bundle was a bit odd, as it was served cold, so I probably would not do it again, but still felt good.
The service was fast. Order and pay for your food at the bar, so when you're ready to go, it's convenient to leave quickly. I would recommend this place for drinks and some tasty informal sandwiches.
